Although we experienced some spring sunshine recently with high temperatures more akin to May or June, a year ago in February 2018 we were dealing with difficult winter conditions with the ‘Beast from the East’.
Most of the country was experiencing bad weather with snow and ice, typical of normal UK winter weather. Indeed the ‘Beast from the East’ also returned in late March 2018, which shows how difficult it is to predict weather patterns in the UK and to know when bad weather is likely.
Andrew Sherriff, Director, Clearway Gritting, St Albans, Hertfordshire said:
‘Although we had one of the hottest February months on record with warm sunshine this year, it was only a year ago that our Clearway Gritting teams were out providing winter gritting maintenance and helping our clients by gritting private footpaths, private roads, car parks so their workers and customers, could get to and from their work place. The weather is currently very unpredictable and we are experiencing different patterns of weather, so just because we are now officially not in ‘winter’ doesn’t mean that it won’t snow. Our weather can change very quickly and we should be prepared for non-seasonal weather. That is why we recommend businesses are not complacent and organise a winter gritting contractor, who they contact and work with anytime when there is the likelihood of snow and ice. We have already experienced snow this winter and our gritting teams have been out many evenings when temperatures were forecast to fall to zero to prevent ice building up on private roads, pathways and in car parks.’
Andrew Sherriff, Director, Clearway Gritting, St Albans, Hertfordshire continued:
‘Businesses should remember that it may only take one heavy snowfall to disrupt their business, which could have a significant effect on their profitability. To prevent this happening we recommend all businesses sign up with a gritting contractor, so they are confident that when they need help they will get it. We work with a variety of clients across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and North London. When it snows we get inundated with calls to come out and grit private and company premises, retail parks and industrial parks. Unfortunately, we can’t deal with all of those last minute enquiries effectively because we prioritise our regular customers who have signed up to a seasonal plan. If you organise a winter gritting contract now, you too can become a priority customer, with peace of mind that our gritting teams can assist your business in bad weather.
