Winter has arrived late this year – have you organised your Winter Maintenance & Gritting Contract? During December we experienced excessive rainfall following a run of named storms. Since October 2023 the UK has experienced: Babet, Ciaran, Debi, Elin, Fergus, Gerrit and Henk, just another example of freak weather and the impact of climate change.
How cold will the weather get this January?
For the last week the weather has got colder and already parts of Scotland have experienced heavy snowfall. This cold weather is forecast to continue. We are now seeing arctic winds bringing very cold weather with the risk of snow falling across parts of the UK later this week. Even if we don’t get snow in the South East the cold winds will make temperatures feel like they are below freezing. There is likely to be travel problems as we experience some of the coldest weather that we have seen this winter. Already the Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice for much of Norfolk, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Clearway Gritting vehicles go out in freezing weather
Remember it doesn’t have to snow for the winter weather to cause havoc at your workplace. When temperatures fall below freezing black ice can develop at your business which is dangerous for vehicles and pedestrians. If you have colleagues arriving at work or customers coming to your business you need to make sure your access roads, car parks, paths and pavements are gritted, so cars don’t have accidents at your work and people can move safely around the business premises. Health and Safety at work is critical and your HR department should prioritise this issue.
Make a winter gritting contract your 2024 priority
Anand Clarke, Managing Director Clearway Gritting, St Albans, Hertfordshire said:
“Although winter has been slow to get going this year, don’t be fooled by the mild December. We’re now seeing more typical temperatures and weather patterns. In 2023 we did a record number of call outs to businesses laying grit and clearing snow. Our Clearway gritting teams were still going out in March 2023 which demonstrates the unpredictable nature of our current weather.
Weather patterns are changing and perhaps this cold weather snap is just the start of winter? The seasons are changing too, and there is a possibility that this winter weather could continue well into spring.
Anand Clarke, Managing Director Clearway Gritting, St Albans, Hertfordshire continued:
Remember it’s not too late to organise a winter gritting contract for your business for 2024.
If you contact our St Albans gritting team now on 01727 640185, we can talk you through the various gritting options we offer, so you get a winter gritting contractor to your premises in time for the freezing weather due later this week. We offer winter gritting to businesses across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, North London, Buckinghamshire, Middlesex and Berkshire. We can offer different gritting options to suit your price range. We realise all businesses are different and there isn’t a winter gritting contract suitable for everyone, so we offer bespoke gritting packages.
For large retail parks or industrial estates, hospitals and supermarkets which are open long hours, we normally offer 24 hours 7 days a week gritting service. Some of our smaller businesses are only open Monday to Friday and don’t require gritting services at the weekend. Other businesses only want winter gritting at weekends. Or finally for peace of mind you can just organise a pay as you go gritting service. Then you can contact your Clearway Gritting team when you need us to service your premises. That way if there is another ‘Beast from the East’ and we get unexpected cold weather and snow your business will have a Clearway Gritting contract set up and ready to go.”
