‘Cold snaps’ possible in February
Bad January weather that has continued for at least three days longer than was forecast, follows a week of snow and ice in December called the ‘Troll from Trondheim’. The Met Office has warned the UK that further bad weather is likely to continue into February, or certainly the possibility of ‘further cold snaps.’
UK could face another ‘Beast from the East’ this February
Some agencies are forecasting a sudden stratospheric warming event in early February. This occurs when the Arctic air warms up and then even colder polar air is sent towards the UK. It takes a few weeks to have an impact on the weather but if it happens there is much more chance that cold air from the Arctic would hit the UK. This situation helped cause the ‘Beast from the East’ in 2018. The Met Office has suggested there is a ‘possibility’ this could happen.

Cold weather across the UK in January
